Alexandrine started with sewing ready-to-wear knickers for children with pieces of cloth left by her grandmother who was a dressmaker, and sold these shorts from door to door. At that time, she earned less than $1, which she used to invest in buying fabrics for making knickers for children. Five years later in 1988, she recruited a woman for embroidering and started to prospect new customers in town.

In 1992, Tahiana creation started to make a research on natural painting, getting natural colors from leaves, barks, fruits’ stones and roots of natural plants, they have discovered 40 natural colors from plants.

Vetiver is traditionally used for roofing by Malagasy people, its winding root, which can reach 6 meters long, has several properties: first, it acts as insect repellent, second, its essence is used to make perfume and oil. It also protects soil against erosion. It is also useful to purify water. In Madagascar, the utilization of the vetiver root for handcrafts and decoration is a recent function. After being dug up, the vetiver roots is washed and then dried naturally. To keep its natural scent, craftsmen do not tint the roots, but usually weave it with cotton to make handcrafts.
